Memorial of Maxine Powell
Maxine Powell recently passed away at the age of 98. She was a wonderful woman who mentored many Motown musicians, emphasizing the importance of manners and grace. She taught artists such as the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson how to properly sit, stand, dress and speak.
Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr. said in a statement that Powell “brought something to Motown that no other record company had … She was tough, but when she got through with [the artists], they were poised, professional and very thankful.”
You make Detroit, and the rest of the world for that matter, proud. Rest in peace.
